Blog Description: On this blog, I post music from every genre. I post music from all over the world and from various time periods. Short descriptions will be your only guide in navigating the links I post here.
A fair warning - Because the music differs vastly from one artist to the next, not every song will be to your liking. However, I do believe there is something here for everyone.
Please... Explore!
Talkdemonic might be the most underrated band making music right now. I feel like they deserve a Nobel Peace Prize or something... They make folky, post rock, electronic, bluegrass, beauty music ultra mega 3000... It's best if you just take a listen for yourself.
Special thanks to my brother, Brighton, for introducing me to these guys. Much appreciated.
This band hails from Portland, Oregon. They released their first album in 2005.
Fun Fact: Talkdemonic's viola player, Lisa Molinaro, is also a member of
Modest Mouse, and is currently in a relationship with its' lead singer, Isaac Brock.
This band is pretty chill. They kind of blend the ambient style of Yo La Tengo with the instrumentation and lyrical style of Wilco. They're a fairly new band and they call themselves Some Say Leland. Good stuff.
The Soft Moon is a beautiful example of how Goth music can be Bauhaus & The Cure, rather than Marilyn Manson & Korn. Nothing against those guys, but really... Comparing Robert Smith with Korn's singer, Jonathan Davis, truly exemplifies the sheer variety within the Goth genre. Robert Smith wearing Tripp pants is a pretty funny thought.
Anyways... People get pretty turned off when they hear the term Goth. But here's a one-man-band I think could make some people reconsider the genre in one of it's modern day forms. The Soft Moon is like Echo and the Bunnymen, Bauhaus, and Joy Division made a futuristic baby that lurks in the dark plotting your downfall with music that entrances you. It holds you hypnotized. You're under its' spell. You deliver yourself to him. God be with you... Lord knows, the devil is.
In the early 90s, two Japanese women living in New York City decided to make an electronic band that sings about food... Well, mostly. Eventually, they went on to write music about other topics.
Fun Facts - On one of their albums, Sean Lennon (John Lennon's son) from the band Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger is featured in the band's lineup. Also, one of the two founding members (Miho Hatori) is the voice and personality behind the character Noodle in the virtual band, Gorillaz.
Earlier, I mentioned that at first, they only sand about food. These tracks have titles like "White Pepper Ice Cream", "Sci fi Wasabi", "Artichoke", "Know Your Chicken", "Sugar Water", "Beef Jerky", "Birthday Cake", etc...
weird.
This one's my favorite...
BONUS: So, I had to add this in here. The singer who is Noodle in the Gorillaz, also has a side project in which she sings beautiful jazzy lounge songs with bossa nova guitarist, Smokey Hormel.
These guys are from Denmark. They formed in 2008 and wear bunny masks when they perform. They're pretty odd. The singer, Brian Batz, uses a machine to create a high-pitched singing voive that seems to mimic the group's bunny rabbit personas... Just take a look.
Found this puppy a few years back, and it never fails to bring about thoughts of existential crisis. So, smoke a doob and watch the video, but I'm warning you. You're gonna feel weird.
